Design Culture Now
Typographic Hierarchy
Adobe InDesign
Design Culture Now is an event hosted at the Cooper Hewitt Smithsonian Design Museum. This event revolves around the work of numerous established and emerging designers. This project focuses on learning and applying typographic hierarchy. Typographic hierarchy is the art of organizing content/information without sacrificing the design aspect. The main objective for this project is to learn and apply skills to creating a poster that would be easy to understand while also grabbing the attention of readers.
In this project, I wanted to focus on the
readability of the content. The obstacle
in this project was creating a design
that wasn’t flat but didn’t also seem
too “out of this world.” When receiv-
ing critiques and continuously taking
inspiration from others, I learned that
a poster representing “Design Culture
Now” should be able to represent that
name. I realized that I had to break out of a structured pattern that I made and start looking at the content as shapes. Working with shapes, I wanted to merge the content together would cre- ate a cohesiveness, but also a distinct separation of the information – essen- tially making blocks fit together.

My Voice
Design Movement History: Swiss Style Adobe InDesign and Ilustrator
The International Typographic Style or Swiss Style is an art movement that began in the 1940s and 50s, in Switzerland. It is identified by its use of simple geometric shapes, sans serif typography, as well as the grid system. Swiss Style was the design movement that I chose to focus on this project. The goal of this project is to be able to learn about the history and how to execute your chosen design history movement.
For Swiss Style, I chose to learn from Josef Müller-Brockmann, a Swiss graphic designer who studied under Ernst Keller, the father of Swiss Design. I specifically looked into Brockmann’s piece, Akari. This piece was specifically designed for the exhibition of a Japanese lamp company. I chose this piece, because when I first looked at it, I felt that there was a lot that I could do, despite it being just a circle. For this project, I was tasked with creating an
album cover for Taeyeon Kim, a South Korean singer. I chose Taeyeon, because her clear communication with fans about her emotion (in her songs) was something that directly related to the Swiss Style movement. I wanted to be able to translate her music style into Brockmann’s piece Akari.

Adobe InDesign and Illustrator
Digifest is an event hosted by UH’s College of Technology for graduating seniors to network and display their portfolio. It is a chance for students to grab an internship opportunity or even a career opportunity in digital media.
In this project, I wanted to create a design that would
display my concept of digital media while staying within
UH’s brand style. For my concept statement, I wrote that
“digital media is the transformational blend of technology
and content that allow for human expression and
communication through a digital medium.” To exhibit the
blending of technology and content, I wanted my lockup
and text to flow along and be integrated into my graphics-
to demonstrate interaction between the two and ensure
that everything is cohesive.
From this project, having the concept statement developed,
created a guide for me that allowed me to make creative
decisions without getting off track or lost. I learned how
much control a developed concept gave to me versus
without one.

DigiFest
DigiFest is a career fair hosted by the University of Houston at Sugar Land for outgoing Digital Media students. It gives them a chance to network and display to portfolios to various industries and companies within Digital Media. The goal of this project was learn individualized communication processes through DigiFest.
In this project, we were tasked with creating an announcement card that would persuade various companies in attending DigiFest - our main component being personalization. For my design, my group and I decided that a collage of various industries would

demonstrate diversity. To add personalization, we would include a “focus model” that would vary depending on the industry professional that is receiving it. In this process, we learned how to use Dynamic Content, a tool utilizing XMPie in Adobe InDesign. This allowed
us to create variable data from prior
research about potential attendees.
Each announcement card would be
personalized based on industry, gender, and name. In this project, I learned the process that comes with creating personalized communication efforts. Learning how to use XMPie is a skill that will be of great use in the future.

Sip Society
Interactive Digital Magazine Adobe InDesign
Sip Society is an interactive digital magazine centered around cocktails. This volume covers spring cocktails. Sip Society is here to provide readers with cocktail recipes to fill their spring fun.
In this project, I was tasked with creating a digital magazine that utilizes and features interactive tools from InDesign. For my project, I decided to create a magazine about cocktails - which allowed me various different topics and ways of incorporating interactive features (animation, buttons and forms, hyperlinks, object styles and states) in my magazine.
With complete control over this project (topic, design, color), I decided to go towards a playful look while still maintaining a sense of elegance to harmonize with the name “Sip Society”.
Overall, this magazine is a small demonstration of my own personal design style. If I were to continue this project, I would continue to demonstrate the same design style, but try to change small details like color and small accents to fit with the season.
A Common Miscoldception
Campaign Plans-book
Adobe InDesign
A Common Miscoldception is an advertising campaign created by my team for the 2023-2024 National Student Advertising Competition (NSAC) whose client was Tide.
For this project, I was designated as my team’s plansbook director and creatively took charge of this book and the presentation deck. With the help of my co-director and copywriter, I was able to organize and gather content for our campaign book.
